throughout history, ancient Greeks, Persians, Romans, Arabs, Seljuk Turks, Byzantines, the Knights of St. John, Turks (this time Ottomans) and then Italians, Germans and British passed through here, and finally in 1947 the island returned to Greece. They all left behind a legacy that makes Rhodes unique.
